Regenerated cashmere: what it means and how the life cycle of fibers works

The concept of regenerated cashmere is acquiring ever greater importance in the textile sector, from a circular economy perspective. Regenerated cashmere refers to recovered and rewoven cashmere fibers from unused or unusable clothing items. Advanced regeneration processes are therefore applied that allow the fibers to be given new life through repeated treatment cycles.


Thanks to the technology developed, it is possible to completely regenerate the fibers while guaranteeing their quality unchanged. A virtuous approach that creates new value from existing materials in an eco-sustainable way, giving life to the best Italian cashmere ever.


By recovering and reintroducing cashmere fibers into production cycles, rather than sending them to disposal, a sustainable economic model is implemented that maximizes the value of natural resources over time.


In particular, regenerated cashmere has the following environmental and economic advantages:


  1. It reduces the exploitation of virgin sources, protecting cashmere farms and limiting the ecological footprint;

Regenerated Cashmere: Process and Fiber Regeneration

The cashmere regeneration process plays a key role in the circular economy pursued by the best cashmere fabric producers. Once the no longer usable garments have been collected, the fibers are subjected to a careful barking treatment, which allows them to be separated from the support fabrics with extreme delicacy, preserving their integrity and softness. The cashmere barking treatment consists of a delicate phase of separation of the fibers from the now disused support fabric. It is carried out using machinery equipped with special riddled drums, in which the garment is rotated at low speed and pressure.


The holes in the drum, calibrated to the diameter of the individual cashmere fibers, allow the passage of the latter while retaining the yarns and residual stitching. At the same time, controlled air jets are made to act from inside the drum: the outgoing air lifts and removes the fibers as they detach from the fabric, without exerting any traction.


The result is an ultra-delicate and complete peeling, in grto preserve the integrity of the individual recycled cashmere fibers. This careful technique maximizes their reuse in production.


This is followed by a cycle of controlled washes, aimed at removing dirt residues and accessory fibers. The water is sanitized and recycled in the process. The fibers thus obtained then undergo a mechanical combing and stretching phase, using special combs that lengthen and untangle the structure without causing breakage.


Thanks to these measures, the cashmere fabric maintains its intrinsic thermoregulatory and tactile properties unaltered even after regeneration. It is then subjected to strict product controls before being reintroduced into the production cycle
