Pilling

Cashmere is one of the finest and softest fibers used for the production of knitwear.
However, just like other natural raw materials, Cashmere knitwear can also have the problem of pilling, that is, the formation of small “lint” on the surface of the garment: the “pills”.

When does pilling occur?

Pilling occurs when fabric fibers twist and stick together, partly due to wear and tear on the garment, partly due to too many washes it has been subjected to.
Pilling can make the appearance of the garment less attractive and give it a rather unpleasant feel.

How to prevent it?

There are several things you can do to prevent pilling of cashmere knitwear.

1) Follow the washing instructions on the label.

First and foremost, it is important to follow the washing instructions indicated on the garment label.
Cashmere should be hand-washed with cold water using a mild detergent without resorting to fabric softeners.
It is also important to avoid rubbing or rubbing the fabric too much during washing.

2) Avoid wearing Cashmere with other rough fabrics.

Secondly, it is important to avoid wearing cashmere knitwear in combination with other rough fabrics such as wool as this can cause friction and worsen pilling.

3) Be careful with zippers or accessories

In addition, it is advisable to avoid carrying bags , backpacks or other accessories with zippers in contact with cashmere knitwear as they can cause friction and generate the phenomenon.

How to remove it?

There are three main techniques to remove pilling from cashmere knitwear.

1) It is possible to remove pilling from cashmere knitwear by tilizing a special fabric comb. This tool is designed to remove pilling without damaging the fibers.

2) Lint-removing machine

3) Special spray solution

Cashmere by its nature tends to pill less than other types of wool. And in its case, pilling can be considered a positive sign since it indicates that the knitwear is composed of superior quality noble fibers, and is free of polyester.
